Everyone is Welcome Here
Our commitment to real diversity
A core value of Catskill Wheelhouse is belief in the inherent dignity and value of every human being. We welcome families of all racial, cultural, linguistic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds, of all gender expressions, sexual orientations, neurological wiring, and family structures. We see diversity as a strength, and believe that a community comprised of individuals from different backgrounds, life experiences, and perspectives enriches all of our lives. It is our goal to welcome people of all identities and backgrounds, and to create a safe, nurturing space for all children and families by creating a culture of care and acceptance. We are so happy to see you just as you are.
We acknowledge that grave harm and injustice have been inflicted upon many groups through historical and social forces, and that inequity is very present in our current society. We commit to working to identify and remove these injustices as they manifest themselves in our work with children and families. We engage in ongoing reflection and intentional action to uncover and change our own biases, and constantly work to bring about a more just world.
A first step in this process is ensuring physical and emotional safety for all families and children who participate in our programs. Demeaning, disrespectful, or unkind language that insults any aspect of individuals’ identity is not permitted. Threats and physical violence are not permitted for any reason. Respectful interactions, and a willingness to seek to understand the perspectives of others and to listen is required of all participants in programs run by Catskill Wheelhouse.
Because all of us have lived our lives in a culture in which bias and prejudice are embedded, we all hold unconscious biases. The staff of Catskill Wheelhouse commit to engage in ongoing reflection to uncover and change these biases. We invite your feedback, and we promise to listen.
